Spooky Facts

In the spirit of Halloween spooky things have been on our mind at Energy House. One of them being not taking the proper precautions when getting into your hot tub. Taking care of your hot tub can be a simple thing to do as long as you keep in mind a few key pointers that I found online and from our own service department. If your spa is not properly maintained, it may not be safe to go in it. One can receive what is known as hot tub rash. I know my Uncle has had one and it went away about after a week. This can be avoided if you follow this advice.
1.)  Before you hop into your hot tub, first rinse off and get clean. Do this first and then get inside the spa. The reason for this is “personal care products such as lotion, makeup and sunscreen use up the disinfectant in the water, meaning it’s less able to kill off other bugs,” (Huffington Post). Let your water care treatment system work for you, not against you. I learned this the hard way as many hot tub owners often do.
2.)  Yet again before stepping in, test your spa with chemical test strips. This takes about a minute or so and lets you know if it is ready to go or you need to add water care treatment to your spa.
Four Questions Hot Tub Owners Need to Know. Also Know That Our Service Depatment Is There For You.
• What was the most recent health inspection score for the hot tub?
• Are disinfectant and pH levels checked more often when the hot
tub is being used by a lot of people?
• Are the following maintenance activities performed regularly:
» Removal of the slime or biofilm layer by scrubbing and cleaning?
» Replacement of the hot tub water filter according to
manufacturer’s recommendations?
» Replacement of hot tub water?
Make sure to have a clean and sanitary hot tub. Call service for any maintenance inquiries on your Hot Spring Spa (559-432-1500).

Shopping for an Insert: Here's What to Bring

When shopping for an insert to fit into your fireplace it is best to bring a picture with you of your fireplace. It is even more helpful if you bring along a photo and fireplace measurements. Here is a guideline for taking your fireplace measurements.
Also, let us know if you have a masonry fireplace or zero clearance fireplace. Masonry fireplaces are brick or stone inside and outside where the chimney is. Zero clearance are prefabricated fireplaces that tend to have stucco or an exterior that matches the home. Zero clearance fireplaces tend to have metal framing and glass doors, whereas masonry fireplace are typically a firebox without doors or metal framing.

Our team is here to help you find which type of insert works best for you and your family. Energy House also makes it easy in providing you with an installer you can trust. Cleaning Your HotSpring Spa

Cleaning Your SpaSoak in your spa’s sparkling clean water by following these simple cleaning tips.
For the whole spa: Use a mild non-abrasive, non-sudsing cleaner and a soft rag or nylon scrubber to remove dirt build-up
For minor surface cleaning: Use common baking soda to clean small surface areas
For spa pillows: Follow the instructions in your Owner’s Manual to remove and clean your spa pillows
For vinyl cover: First remove the cover and spray it lightly with a garden hose to loosen any dirt or debris that might have built up. Then, using a mild soap solution (1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid with 2 gallons water) or baking soda, scrub the vinyl in a circular motion with a large sponge and rinse with a garden hose. Rinse the bottom of the cover without using soap, and wipe it clean with a dry rag. To condition the cover after cleaning, apply a thin film of Hot Spring Cover Shield™ product.
Helpful Hint: To keep detergent and soap residue out of your spa water, shower without soap before soaking in your spa, and instead of washing your bathing suit use the rinse cycle.
Clean Your Spa Filter Cartridges
Because mineral particles or calcification from hard water can clog any water filtration system, we recommend following these light cleaning tips each month to keep your spa’s water flowing properly.
Spray cartridges: Spray each cartridge with a garden hose, rotating while spraying to thoroughly remove any debris between filter pleats
Use filter cleaner: Use either FreshWater® Instant Filter Cleaner or FreshWater® Filter Cleaner to keep your filters clean and in good operating condition
Replace filters: While cleaning your filters will help keep water running smoothly, you should replace your filters every three years with genuine Watkins replacement filters
Replacing Your Spa Water
While following spa water cleaning tips will keep your water fresh longer, soaps and detergents can build over time in your spa to cause residue.  Know how to replace your water with these steps
Drain and refill tub: Following the instructions in your Owner’s Manual, drain and refill the water in your spa to clear detergent and soap residue that may have accumulated over time
Get pre-filter: For sparkling clean water right from the start, use the CleanScreenTM; Pre-Filter when filling your spa
Attach pre-filter: When using the CleanScreenTM: Pre-Filter, attach it to an ordinary garden hose to remove organic contaminants, metals like copper and iron, and tannins from your new water.
Water is the essence of your spa, so it should be fresh, clean and ready to enjoy.  Hot Springs offers two accessories to keep your water clean and your care routine easy.
Hot Spring MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidizer
To eliminate unwanted impurities accumulated in you spa water, this chlorine-free oxidizer increases sanitizer efficiency and enhances water clarity.  The Hot Spring MPS Chlorine-Free Oxidizer is compatible with bromine, chlorine and most alternative sanitizers.  It is also recommended for use with the EverFresh® water care system for the best quality water possible...fresh, safe, and free of odors and irritation.
Hot Spring Spa Vac
The Hot Spring Spa Vac cleans dirt, gravel, leaves and other debris without draining your spa. This self-contained, simple-to-use water vacuum requires no pumping, batteries or water hook-ups, while the telescopic aluminum pole makes it easy to remove debris from hard-to-reach areas. You can also it on your swimming pool steps and in fountains.

Water Care Made Easier with Ozone

What is ozone?

Ozone is your hot tubs best friend. What I mean by this is that ozone works with your hot tubs current system whether it be salt water system, bromine water system or chlorine water system. Ozonators split oxygen atoms that collide and create ozone. Adding ozone to your existing water care process has many benefits including:

  1. Reduce the amount of chemicals you use to keep your spa sanitized
  2. Only by product of ozone is oxygen
  3. Easy on spa equipment
  4. Eliminates chloramines which is a toxic by product of chlorine
  5. Ozone oxidizes or burns off hydrogen sulfides and iron managases.
It is good to note that ozone in your spa is a great addition to your water care process, however it is not meant to be a stand alone product, though it will reduce your use of spa chemicals.

Is there more than one type of ozonator?

There are two types of ozonators for a hot tub, UV (ultraviolet) ozonator and CD (corona discharge) ozonator. UV ozonators use ultraviolet lamps to split the oxygen atoms to produce ozone. Ultraviolet light waves are broadcast at a higher frequency than natural sunlight or other forms of artificial light and acts to split oxygen atoms apart.  Corona discharge ozonators work when air passes through an electrical field that acts to break oxygen molecules apart.

Which ozonator is better to use for a hot tub?

CD ozonators is a newer technology whereas UV ozonators have been around for decades. The new type of ozonator has the following benefits over the UV ozonators:
  • Less electricity
  • Manufacturers claim they last longer than UV units
  • Manufacturers claim they are better made and more effective at reducing contaminants than most UV units
  • Hot tub users report that CD units help them with better water quality
  • CD ozonators tend to produce a greater amount of heat than UV ozonators

Endless Pools Fitness Systems and SwimCross Exercise Systems have many exceptional design
elements in common
and are primarily differentiated by the swim current generator. Endless Pools Fitness Systems feature the Endless Pools Swim Machine, while the SwimCross Exercise Systems swim current is powered by jets.

“Endless Pools Fitness Systems represents
a breakthrough in combining beautifully functional design with advanced swim-in-place technology to create a home wellness system that owners can be proud to have as a centerpiece of their backyard,” said Mike Dunn, Executive Vice President of Watkins Wellness. “Customers shouldn’t have to compromise style for functionality – we believe in providing customers with a product that is stylistically better and extraordinarily versatile with swim and exercise options suitable for any customer.”

Unlimited Possibilities
Endless Pools Fitness Systems combines the revolutionary Endless Pools Swim Machine with an optional underwater treadmill, rowing, strength-training exercises, and

relaxing spa seating with hydromassage jets. The thoughtful and contemporary design of the acrylic shell and all-season cabinet stands above in both form and function.
All Endless Pools Fitness Systems and SwimCross Exercise Systems are built for durability and beauty, which is why an extremely strong, 14-gauge galvanized steel frame and ABS base pan are standard on all models.

The Magic Is in the Machine

The Endless Pools Swim Machine pioneered the propeller-driven swim-
in-place technology, and to this day remains the leader in this category. Endless Pools Fitness Systems use a custom-made, hydraulically powered propulsion system that creates a laminar current of up to 5,000 gallons
per minute (GPM) that is wider than your body and deeper than your stroke. Multiple conditioning grills smooth and redirect the water, resulting in a swim current that is free
of turbulence. Even at full power, it feels like swimming in open water.

A Jetted Swim System with Exceptional Value

SwimCross Exercise Systems offer a jetted option from the makers of Endless Pools that stand out from the typical jetted swim spa. The five swim jets in SwimCross Exercise Systems are designed to produce a less turbulent swim current. From novice to expert swimmers,
all will enjoy the system’s five output levels, in addition to the workout options
of rowing,
resistance exercise, and relaxing hydrotherapy that are available.

Endless Pools Fitness Systems E500 and E700 models, as well as SwimCross Exercise Systems X200 and X500, are available through authorized retailers nationwide. Visit www.endlessfitness.com to find the nearest retailer and to learn more.

Aquatic Fitness System for the Fitness Enthusiast at Any Age

Energy House is now offering Endless Pools Fitness Systems

The aquatic fitness system will be available to view in the showroom towards the end of March.

Swim Machine The Magic Is in the Machine™ For a superior swim-in-place experience, customers need look no further than the iconic Endless Pools® Swim Machine. That’s because Endless Pools uses a custom-made, hydraulically powered propulsion system that creates a laminar current of up to 5,000 gallons per minute (GPM) that is wider than your body and deeper than your stroke. Multiple conditioning grills smooth and redirect the water, resulting in a swim current that is free of turbulence. Even at full power, it feels like swimming in open water.

Underwater Treadmill Optional – yet essential – the Endless Pools hydraulically powered underwater treadmill offers low-impact running and walking options for all of the cardiovascular benefits of exertion without the negative side effects often felt with land-based exercise. Vary the treadmill speed for gentle walking or an invigorating run. For a more challenging workout, with the same low-impact benefits, turn on the swim current for increased resistance against core, leg, and upper body muscle groups. The handrail (connected to the Swim Machine) is there specifically for additional support when transitioning in and out of swim and treadmill activities.

Hydraulic Power Unit The Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) is the heart of the Endless Pools Fitness Systems. It pumps high-grade, biodegradable vegetable oil to the underwater motor for both the swim machine and treadmill. Fitness Systems with both a treadmill and swim machine contain two HPUs which are driven by an incredibly efficient 5HP motor. This design allows for maximum power, while remaining energy efficient. Remote Control | Swim Machine & Treadmill The swim machine and treadmill are each managed by individual remote controls that allow you to increase or decrease speed on the fly. The swim machine flow speed ranges from 5:00 to 1:08 minutes per 100 yards, and can be easily adjusted for precise pace selection. The treadmill has a speed range of 0 to 5.5 MPH. With 60 AMP service*, both systems can be used simultaneously. Water Management System Endless Pools Fitness Systems feature a dual water purification system that combines Ultraviolet C (UVC) lighting with eco-friendly CD Ozone, commonly known as Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP), to neutralize contaminants. The continuous water rotation from the circulation pump, coupled with 200 sq. ft. of filtration, ensures ease of maintenance and water that is always exercise-ready.

Spa Seating with Hydromassage Jets Following a workout, there is nothing like a “cool-down” in the comfort of spa seating where hydromassage jets soothe your muscles. Perfectly positioned in two captain’s chairs with pillows, plus a third middle seat, four jet types are combined in three configurations to deliver a post-workout relaxation experience.
